Mass on Ice

January 26, 2015

Each year just prior to the start of the Spring Semester, the entire freshman class of  Wyoming Catholic College in Lander, WY heads into Grand Teton National Park for a winter backpacking trip on back country skis loaded down with full backpacks.  In addition to building and sleeping in snow caves, each group constructed Ice Chapels.  Fr. Chris Saliga, O.P. of the Province of St. Joseph and co-chaplain Fr Bob Frederick moved between six camps – three each – in order to offer Mass and much more.  The skiing was amazing and the scenery was edifying.  In this picture, you’ll notice not only one of the beautiful hand-crafted ice altars, but also a spectacular view of the Teton Range.
