Passing of Fr. Robert Alan Morris and Fr. William Augustine Wallace

As Henry Adams famously declared, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” Over the past days, two venerable teachers in the Province of St. Joseph have themselves entered eternity: Fr. Robert Alan Morris, O.P. and Fr. William Augustine Wallace, O.P. Fr. Morris, who died at the age of 91 on Monday, March 2, was born in Jersey City, NJ on April 20, 1923. He spent much of his life as a Dominican friar teaching at Providence College in Providence, RI, where he also served as a chaplain, vice-president, and mentor. Morris’ funeral will be held at St. Dominic’s Chapel on the campus of Providence College on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 9:00 am. Fr. Wallace passed away at the age of 96 on Tuesday, March 3. Fr. Wallace was born in New York, NY on May 11, 1918. Fr. Wallace taught at a number of institutions throughout his life, including the Dominican Houses of Studies in Springfield, KY, Dover, MA, and Washington, DC, the Catholic University of America, and the University of Maryland. In addition to his teaching and publishing, Fr. Wallace served as the Director General of the Leonine Commission for the editing of the Latin texts of St. Thomas Aquinas from 1976-1987. Fr. Wallace’s funeral will be held at St. Dominic’s Church in Washington, DC on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:30 am.
