Providence College receives $1.32 million to aid students studying for the priesthood

April 27, 2015

Earlier this month, Providence College announced the establishment of The Rev. Joseph McGarry Memorial Scholarship Trust, established by Isabel T. McGarry to honor Father McGarry, who was a priest in the Archdiocese of Hartford for nearly 50 years until his death in 2004. The trust, valued at $1.32 million, is expected to generate about $65,000 a year for scholarships. The money is to be used “on behalf of a student who is studying for the Catholic priesthood, or is an ordained Catholic priest seeking a graduate degree related to his vocation, or is furthering his education to better serve the Roman Catholic Church.” According to the announcement from Providence College, “the bequest gives preference to students who are recommended by the Archdiocese of Hartford, the Diocese of Norwich, Conn., and the Diocese of Providence. Academic merit and financial need are considerations.” To learn more, click here.
