The Incarnate Lord: A Thomistic Study in Christology

This month, the Catholic University of America Press is publishing a new book by Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P., Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception. Titled The Incarnate Lord: A Thomistic Study in Christology, this volume is part of the Thomistic Ressourcement series published by CUA Press, a series of volumes dedicated to presenting Catholic doctrine and spirituality from a perspective rooted in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas. Fr. Thomas Joseph White describes the purpose of the new book in this way: “The central teaching of Aquinas is not a mere matter of historical interest, or a nostalgic form of theology from a bygone era. Aquinas promotes principles about God, the human person and Christ, that are of perennial value in any age. Historical study of Aquinas is important, but we also can and should engage the era in which we live. The purpose of this book is to show the inner truth and beauty of St. Thomas’ vision of Christ as a Dominican contemplative and a Catholic theologian, and to show why this vision is of importance for contemporary Catholic theology. Often times modern ‘Christologies’ are composed without a deeper attention to traditional metaphysics: the classical philosophical understanding of reality that comes to us from Aristotle and Aquinas.
