Pope Francis and the Relationship between Science and Religion

In his recent Encyclical Laudato Si’, Pope Francis affirms that “science and religion, with their distinctive approaches to understanding reality, can enter into an intense dialogue fruitful for both.” In an article published today on The Biologos Forum, Fr. Nicanor Austriaco, O.P., addresses Pope Francis’s articulation of the relationship between science and religion as evidenced by the encyclical. Fr. Nicanor, who has earned doctorates in both biology and moral theology, currently serves as Associate Professor of Biology and as Instructor of Theology at Providence College in Providence, RI.
